Canoeing
Petty Pool
Messing about on a river, getting up close to our wonderful nature and enjoying the freedom of taking your boat wherever you point it – that’s canoeing.
We use our open canoes to explore some amazing places, learning new skills and putting these into practice with a journey around our wonderful local river Weaver.
Ready to grow outdoors?
Canoeing is an exciting and adventurous experience that helps participants connect with nature, discover local history and learn more about themselves.
Participants develop key paddling skills, learning the strokes needed to steer, control and travel confidently on the river. Sessions are designed to be active and engaging, with games built in to help everyone learn the basics while having fun.
We often raft canoes together to create a large, stable platform – great for building confidence for beginners – while more experienced paddlers can develop independence, balance and coordination in solo canoes.
Canoeing also encourages teamwork, communication and cooperation, as participants work together to guide their boat in the right direction. As skills develop, so does the need for perseverance, patience and a good sense of humour!
Kit Requirements
- All of our activities are outside so participants should be prepared for sun and rain with appropriate protection from each.
- We’ll provide any specialist kit such as helmets and buoyancy aids.
- Some splashing may occur so we recommend waterproofs and a change of clothes for those intent on getting wet, although on colder days we will plan to stay as dry as possible!
